2020 was 'HELL',

So we braced ourselves well,

For a "Covid-cure",

Mid  '21...

But when that never happened,

Our brains looked to caption

Whatever seemed buoyant and fun...

Yet the past year  saw sickness

And shootings and riots;

('21 was no better than '20)...

When the ball descends

Times Square,

Just past midnight

(By one hair!),

It had better bring

Fortune, and plenty...

'22 will begin with

"The Mightiest Drop",

Kerplop! goes that ball:

Oh, Kerplop!!

Three 2s mark its "full name",

[ Perhaps that spells "good fame"],

But will luck put us back

AT  THE  TOP ?

DARK WINTER SECRETS...

 

     DARK  WINTER  SECRETS

The solstice passed some days ago,

[And right before our eyes];

December's snowy curtains

Slowly  shut, and feigned disguise...

See that cloud of snowflakes dance?

Tumbling toward the lake?

January  bares its soul

Of this, there's  no mistake...

The stage is set for frosty lights,

Some shallow and some steep;

The earth exudes an ice-age chill,

With secrets , wintry-deep...

HOW I OFTEN REMEMBER...

                                                        DECEMBER

The firmament bends far overhead

In shades of frost and gray;

The skeletal limbs of barren trees

Have no green leaves at play...

All is stilled by deathly gusts;

And winds that bring destruction...

How can the sun assuage this scene?

By endorsing and promoting conspiracy theories, or at least not rebutting them, crafty politicians [and certain "opinion" networks; e.g., FOX] shamelessly exploit various unwitting and naïve individuals' fundamental [both unspoken and sub-conscious] deep psychological needs.

Can't 'deck the halls' just yet:

Their walls are sullied by gunshot and soot;

The night skies grow ever dimmer

Toward the solstice that beckons...

What shall we call this

Epoch of guns and bloodshed

Whose love of carnage

Is like wild, wicked thorns?

December stands marked

By coffins, not garlands...

The scent of holly and juniper

Is stilled; snuffed out by senseless

Acts of violence.

MAGA  hats...

Gov's who lie,

Gov's who steal,

and some who simply

Lack appeal...

Then mix them up

[ So really well! ]

While folding in

The Gates of Hell...

Throw in cargo

[ Lost at sea ],

This brew's becoming

Toxic  tea!

Its iniquitous taste

Mirrors an odious race,

'Politics as usual':
